Allez! (HU)

‘The play was made in a unique international theater workshop from the work of A. Kuprin. The Y Group – formed by young artists – and Russian director Gulnaz Balpeisova worked together in the summer of 2017 at Zsámbék.

Nora, a horseback-riding acrobat grew up in a traveling circus, and then became a member of the company. The first word she learnt was ‘Allez!’ which means ‘Onwards!’. When she meets with Menotti, the clown, she falls in love with him. At first Menotti seems to return the feeling, but with time he starts to reject her and becomes licentious. When she tries to get back her man, she fails miserably. Finally Nora in her ultimate despair climbs on the window sill, shouts ‘Allez!’, then jumps off into her death.

Kuprin is a famous representative of the Russian realism, and wrote his novel ‘Allez’ in 1897.

Kuprin’s story is about the nature of love, its forms, the persistent conflict of body and soul in the unique world of the circus which has rules of its own.’
